The vacationer swam leisurely just beyond the breakers, not realizing the currents were slowly pulling him away from the safety of the shoreline. When he finally realized that he was further out than he intended to be, he started to nonchalantly swim toward the shore. He could not make headway, regardless of any angle he took. Further and further he was taken, but still did not exert any serious or strong effort to make it to the beach. Eventually he realized that it required his total determination to break free from the unseen force dragging him to his watery grave, but then it was too late.
Watch and give yourself fully to a right relationship to Christ or you too will be taken captive, little by little, by an unseen, but powerful hand, to do Satan's bidding.
And, for those who might misunderstand me, I am not saying that our human effort saves us, I am saying that God only saves those who seek Him with the whole heart.

(15) And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.

(9) For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Psalms 119:10
(10) With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
