02/20/13 FROM EMPTINESS TO ABUNDANCE

02/20/13 FROM EMPTINESS TO ABUNDANCE

I have stared into the far reaches of a starry heaven and thought about the vast and vacuous emptiness between planets, stars and galaxies. Nothingness, farther than the eye can see.

Yet that void does not begin to compare to the emptiness that I have seen in the eyes of people whose lives are ruined by sin. I have met them on the crowded streets, sat with them in the quiet parks, talked with them in their lonely solitude.

People who once had home, health, happiness, hope. But drinking or drugging or depravity had robbed them of all their treasures and sucked the very life out of them. People who had successful careers, people who had basked in the loving arms of a wife or husband, and children, but have long since become derelicts in a sea of futility, haunted by ghosts of lost loves.

Satan is the great thief who robs these people of every good thing.
But Jesus is the great redeemer of lost causes, the restorer of lost lives.

It is good to rescue these men and women from torment, but it is even better to set them on a course that leads to eternal glory. Go and tell the good news, Jesus saves.
