03/15/13 EXHORTATION AND WARNING

03/15/13 EXHORTATION AND WARNING

Daily fellowship with victorious believers is one of God's ways to encourage, edify and enable us in our walk with Him.
Hebrews 3:13

3 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

NOTICE...
Biblical Exhortation Is...

A call to watchfulness, not complacency (Mt 26:41).
A call to entire sanctification, not just justification (Lk. 3:17-18).
A call to faithfulness, not presumption (Ac. 11:23).
A call to advancement, not retardation (1 Th. 4:1).
A call to pray for souls, not doctrinal excuse for fatalism (1 Tm 2:1-6).
A call to righteousness, not corruption (Ti. 2:12-15).
A call to contend for the faith, not silent observation (Jd. 1:3).

Biblical Exhortation Comes From Godly People, Who Are...
Walking blamelessly (Lk. 1:6).
Walking in the Spirit (Ga. 5:16).
Walking in the light (1 Jn. 1:7).

PASSAGES...
We Are Called To...

Watchfulness
Matthew 26:41

(41) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Entire Sanctification
Luke 3:17-18

(17) Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
(18) And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
(dlg note... this is not a mistake. This passage is a call to entire sanctification.)

Faithfulness
Acts 11:23

(23) Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

Advancement
1 Thessalonians 4:1

(1) Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

Evangelistic Prayer
1 Timothy 2:1-6

(1) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
(2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
(3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
(4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
(5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
(6) Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Righteousness
Titus 2:12-15

(12) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
(13) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
(14) Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
(15) These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Contending for the Faith
Jude 1:3

(3) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

THE GODLY WALK...
Walking Blamelessly
Luke 1:6

(6) And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

Walking In The Spirit
Galatians 5:16

(16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Walking In The Light
1 John 1:7

(7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
