While standing on the sidelines, at a soccer game, in the 1980's, I conversed with a local medical doctor, therefore a man of science. As we talked, the subject of theology came up (since I am a minister of the gospel). He was a skeptic and stated that religion is just unsubstantiated and random beliefs. I responded by pointing out that theology is a very precise science, in fact, more exact than medicine. Of course he disagreed, but theology has been called the Queen of the Sciences, by much more accomplished men than my doctor friend. Most people do not realize the certitude and reliability of Christian theology, as it addresses the problems of mankind. But why should they, since most people are never exposed to sound teaching?
I was thinking about this recently, with my breathing problems and doctor visits and medications, none of which seem to do me any good. I was thinking, I can treat a person's spiritual, moral, social and relational problems with better results than doctors can treat physical ailments. In fact, if the people I counsel will follow my instructions (as found in the Bible), they are certain to be delivered/healed of soul and sin sickness that is destroying them. This does not mean that all their problems will be eliminated, but it does mean that they will be equipped and enabled to live in harmony, and at peace, with God and self.
I love my job. I just wish more people would turn to the God who made them.
