10/15/13 WHICH ARE YOU?
A FEW THOUGHTS ON SHEPHERDS, HIRELINGS, SHEEP, GOATS AND WOLVES. (Which are you)?
The pastor's job is to, shepherd (lead, feed, protect, shear) the sheep and separate the sheep from the goats.
The parishioner's job is to follow/obey the shepherd and to bring more sheep into the fold.
A pastor who does not willingly take oversight (lead/rule) his flock is a hireling.
A parishioner who rejects pastoral authority and brings upheaval to the sheep is a goat or a wolf in sheep's clothing.
The nature of a shepherd is to love his sheep.
The nature of a hireling is to serve himself.
The nature of a sheep is to follow.
The nature of a goat is to be independent.
The nature of a wolf is to divide and devour the sheep.
