A MAJOR MISTAKE MADE BY "INTELLIGENT" PEOPLE...
Everyone has religion (including atheists), but not everyone has salvation.
People err in confusing "religion" with "salvation."
Religion is a system of beliefs concerning a supreme being (whether formal or not), and the worship and service rendered to that being (whether organized or not).
Religion is possible without a spiritual encounter with God. Religion can be either primary in a person's life or subsidiary.

Salvation is a spiritual and living relationship with the One and Only, True and Living God, by believing in the reconciling work of Christ's sacrificial death and physical resurrection. Salvation is Divinely initiated, provided and accomplished in the lives of those who accept the atoning work of Christ and yield to His Lordship by faith.
Salvation is not simply human effort or improvement. Salvation is not simply intellectual ascent to beliefs and conformity to a moral code or lifestyle.

WARNING... Do not reject the miraculous encounter with Christ as simply religion, and do not accept religion as a substitute for a living relationship with God.
This is why the Bible says,
John 3:3
(3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Truly, truly, I say to thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 14:6
(6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.
Salvation is spiritual life from God and it is only obtainable through Christ.

As mankind moved further from the Garden of Eden, he moved further away from his primitive and pristine understanding of God.

Here is why I posted this.
As mankind moved further from the Garden of Eden, he moved further away from his primitive and pristine understanding of God.
As man has moved further from the empty tomb, it has become more difficult for mankind to know the truth about man's separation from God, and God's offer of salvation to man.
The basics of salvation have been replaced with pseudo-science, religious ritual, cultic corruptions, modernistic misrepresentations.
Intelligent people are making faulty decisions based on faulty information.
The Bible is the only trustworthy revelation concerning God and His plan for mankind.
The Bible says that it is reasonable to trust in God for salvation (18).
Isaiah 1:15-20
(15) And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
(16) Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
(17) Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
(18) Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
(19) If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
(20) But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
The Bible says that knowing the truth can set us free from sin's entanglement (32).
John 8:31-32
(31) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
(32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The things I proclaim concerning salvation are not my own thoughts, but God's thoughts and they can be easily verified by reading the Bible. If what I say is not the same as what the Bible says, reject what I say, but trust God. At least see if what I say is the same thing that the Bible says.
