05/24/13 MAINTAINING RESPECT FOR DIVINE AUTHORITY

05/24/13 MAINTAINING RESPECT FOR DIVINE AUTHORITY

All of God's word is true, but there are certain passages that show us the direction we should follow in our Christian journey. Not only do these verses start us in the right direction, they give constant guidance and instantaneous corrections. One of these verses is,

Exodus 20:12
(12) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

This is a constant truth. It is the firm foundation of a strong life. It is the continuing companion of successful living. It is the constant standard in a world of upheaval.

It is impossible to violate this fundamental principle, and be truly successful at the same time. This is especially true when the parents are godly and Bible based in their beliefs and behavior. To abandon this principle is to turn from the way of God.

When this truth is learned early, and followed faithfully, this concept will impact all of our human relationships (parent/child, husband/wife, social, vocational) and our relationship with God.

When a person thinks he has outgrown this verse, he loses contact with the guidance of God. When a child begins to diminish the value, authority, dignity and position of his parents, he is distancing himself from the heavenly Father and destroying his own chance for success.
