05/27/13 ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS

05/27/13 ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS

I want to share a song with you that addresses the sacrifices made by others, which have afforded us our freedoms and blessings. The song was written by J. Schiren, who was a part of our ministry (The Anchor Church) in Morehead City, North Carolina. Actually, some of my favorite Christian songs were written by him.

This song includes the sacrifices of those who died fighting for our freedoms as a nation, those who have died in the spreading of the gospel around the world and the One Who died, to save us from our sins. I am sorry you won't be able to hear the moving music that J wrote.

THEY DIDN'T DIE FOR THIS
Words and Music by J. Schiren
1.
They traveled many miles, to meet the enemy,
They left their wives and children, left their family.
The country that they loved sent them to other lands
To fight to bring us freedom, give hope to every man.

2.
Many knew before they left, they'd not come home again,
And yet they gave life freely, for the betterment of man.
The dreams they carried with them were their lifeblood as they fought
Raising prayers to heaven, as children they'd been taught.

Refrain...
But now they've taken prayer from schools, musn't even talk of God
They've changed our children's morals, now the State wields the rod.
They tell our children what to think, there is no right or wrong.
They've robbed our children's dreams, the weak - crushed by the strong.

Chorus #1...
They didn't die for this - on that lonely, foreign shore
They didn't die for this - they had dreams for so much more.
They didn't die to take Jesus away from our kids at school,
They didn't die to build a nation where God is overruled.

3.
Mothers wept for sons, who died for what was right -
The freedom of religion, to worship in God's sight.
Now mothers weep for children, who are dying every day
They're taking their own lives, without hope - of a better way.

4.
All across this land we see the monuments and graves
Of men who fought so valiantly, men both strong and brave.
Was it all for nothing - the blood and tears that ran?
Will we sit back and watch, the decline of man?

Refrain...
Freedom of speech is the excuse that they use
To pour forth their filth, our morals to abuse.
Everything is right, as long as it feels good.
Sin has lost its meaning. Christ's death misunderstood.

(Chorus # 1 again)

5.
Men of God who carried the truth to other lands
Though beaten, mocked and martyred, firmly took their stand.
They raised the sword of God and fought for what is right,
They paved the way in blood so that we could spread His light..

6.
The Father sent His Son - to give His life for men,
To free them from their sin, to give them life again.
He died upon a cross, for us He paid the price -
The Holy Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice.

Refrain...
But now they tell you on TV - health and wealth are in.
They excuse the wrong you do, they say you can't be free from sin.
Where is the Church of God? What has happened to the Bride?
Has she lost her will to fight? Has His power been denied?

Chorus #2
He didn't die for this - on that lonely rugged tree
He didn't die for this - He came to set men free.
He didn't die so that Christians could sit back in apathy -
He did not die to let the world go to hell, thru you and me.
