Part of the reason Christians do not make total commitment to Christ (or follow-through with their total commitment) is because they are focused on, tied to, this world; not just this present evil world system, but this physical/temporal place we call home.
It is so easy to be attached to the "natural" world/realm that we lose sight of the "supernatural." Since our bodies, our relationships, our lives, our existence, our experiences are part of the natural world, we find ourselves bound by the natural attachments and blinded to the supernatural and spiritual realities.
It takes meditation, obedience, fellowship, prayer, Scripture, as well as detachment from the things of this world. Remember, the temporal is passing, the spiritual is eternal. Feeding our spiritual man is essential to living in the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
(16) For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
(17) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
(18) While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
