The people who built the Tower of Babel saw themselves involved in a unifying, community, and religious activity. So, why did God break up the project? Because they had misplaced their focus. They were unifying around their own ideas rather than God's revelation, they were seeking heaven through human endeavors, and they were following a religion that denied the one true God.
Even when our focus is on a good thing, if it is not the will of God, it becomes the cause of our failure and destruction. When American politics (as with all politics), builds upon humanistic ideals, instead of the Bible; when it seeks to provide Paradise through humanistic effort; when it becomes tolerant of false gods and writings, while rejecting God and His word, then God will eventually break up our nation. To hope in philosophies, projects and profane piety always leads to confusion.
As someone said long ago, The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

HOROSCOPES... The tower (ziggurat) was a tall structure built for observing the stars and constellations. The study of the night sky had deteriorated from the legitimate and scientific study of ASTRONOMY to the pagan practice of ASTROLOGY. God created the stars, put the stars in their places to serve a purpose and He named the stars. Satan corrupted this study to turn men from worshiping the God Who created the stars to worshiping the stars.
BABEL AND BABYLON... The ancient city of Babel grew in political stature and cultural influence and became the fountainhead of socio/political/religious antagonism to God and His revelation. Notice that Babel, Babylon has been connected to Satanic resistance to Judaism and Christianity through the centuries. Notice also, according to the Bible, this evil influence will continue until the end of this age. And, finally, note that this ancient and mysterious stronghold of religion and government is part of present day Iraq, which is vitally connected with the world's largest anti-Christian religion, Islam.
TODAY'S TOWERS... Today there is a movement to unite the world (politically, economically and religiously). There are certain world views which tend toward this purpose. People become committed to people, philosophies and projects seeking to perfect the world while resisting the God of the Bible.
Examine your hopes, your affiliations, your commitments. When you find that you are committed to something that is contrary to the nature and revelation of God, abandon it and seek a Bible answer. Turn from Babel to the Bible.
