I often took the bus to Bible college (Greensboro, N.C.), from my home in Morehead City. Other college students, returning to their own colleges (ECU, NC State, Meredith, Shaw, Duke, UNC, Elon, UNC-G, Greensboro, Bennett, N.C. A&T, Guilford, Wake, not counting Business and Trade schools) would board the bus in New Bern, Kinston, Goldsboro, Smithfield, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington and a million other stops along the way. Oh, did I mention that sometimes these were reallllly long trips?
Of course I would share Christ with other students, when I could. After Christmas, one year, the bus was packed with students, so we were like a special, with very few stops. One student was proudly showing her new engagement ring to everyone. As we settled into our trip I was quietly sharing Jesus with the college girl sitting next to me. She asked me why I was so enthusiastic about Christ. I reminded her of her friend, the newly engaged girl. I pointed out that she was filled with joy and excitement because she was head over heels in love with her fiance. I told her that I had found a spiritual relationship with Christ that filled me with love and joy, hope and excitement.
As I told her about Christ, other students in front and behind us started hanging over the seats to hear about Jesus. Other students came down the aisle to listen, and before I knew it, I had an audience captivated; not by me, but by the message of the real meaning of Christmas. I wish for all of my fellow travelers the joy of Jesus, as we enter this Christmas season. Jesus really is the reason for the season.
For my eastern Carolina friends, I posted the map (google earth map) and mentioned the schools and the cities in honor of you. Many of you remember those college days and the trips back and forth on the buses. Maybe some of you never took a bus that brought you into Morehead (or whatever your destination) at 3 in the morning. You don't know what you missed (hehehe). I remember pulling into the bus station in Morehead (just a dropping off place), on 13th Street, I believe, and then walking the few blocks to my house on Shepard Street.
hehehe, as I have thought about it, I don't remember anyone from Morehead (besides myself) taking the bus back and forth to school. It worked out fine, because being on the eastern end of the route allowed me to pretty much choose where I wanted to sit.
