01/18/13 DISTURBING DECEPTIONS

01/18/13 DISTURBING DECEPTIONS

I recently read a disturbing quote from a 17th century Christian writer, Richard Baxter. Though he said many good things in his life, this quote had some glaring errors, which unfortunately are espoused by some Christians today.
This particular quote says that death ends our fears of death. How sad.

The Bible clearly says that Perfect Love casts out fear and torment. Jesus gives deliverance from the fear of death. It is not even reasonable to say death saves from the fear of death. If a believer dies, there is no death to fear. Deliverance from the fear of death must be before death.

However, believers, who are made perfect in love are delivered from the fear of death, here and now. Salvation from fear is from God, not from death. Death is our enemy, not our savior.

More disturbingly, Baxter also said that death will end our sinning.

Again, how sad. It is not our death that saves us from sin. Instead, the Bible clearly says that JESUS SAVES US FROM SIN, FROM ALL SIN, IN THIS PRESENT EVIL WORLD.

In fact, after we die there is no sin from which to be delivered. His grace is greater than sin NOW, otherwise it is not salvation.

How sad that a person looks to our enemy to save him from sin.
Good news, Jesus saves,
1- He saves from the fear of death,
2- He saves from sin and
3- He saves from death.

Jesus is our Savior, death is our enemy, our last enemy.
