The doctor told the man things that upset and frightened him. The man responded immediately and decisively to the bad news. He found another doctor who did not tell him the truth.

OK, I am talking about people leaving Bible preaching churches and going to more "seeker friendly" religious groups. But you might not have read it if I started the story with, "The preacher told the man..."
